Save a Life Not Take a Life

In 2009 there were 832 animal cruelty cases in the United States alone; states such as Florida, California, and Pennsylvania have the most cases of animal cruelty. Every day, everywhere, people harm and mistreat animals for various reasons; some people for the enjoyment, others from pure carelessness. Most people carry out the day turning a blind eye to cruelty, but thanks to organizations, scientist, authors, and lawyers, we are beginning to create awareness of animal cruelty. Cruelty is a big problem but you can help by doing simple things. You can help get the word out and be a responsible pet owner. Doing this is one small step for you but one huge step for animals everywhere.

People think that a shelter dogs are in the shelter because they are dangerous, or because they are bad. But they think that a dog from a breeder is the well behaved and perfect dream dog. Did they ever stop to think that the "shelter dog" was once a puppy from a dog "breeder?" And that, that dog was most likely the subject to cruelty or was once a pet of an irresponsible owner.

People don’t realize the responsibility of that "cute" cat or "cute" dog. They don’t take into consideration the cost of the pet; People spend on average $850 a year for the minimum. An animal requires a lot of time and you need to play with them. When people don’t take the time to give their pets mental stimulation that’s when they start to get into trouble, because they have to entertain themselves. This is one of the main causes of cruelty; people need to understand that animals cost money and time. People don’t realize this when they buy the pet but then they figure it out once they don’t have the money or the time and they dump their pet on the street.

Animal cruelty, use the words separately and they are words that mean nothing put them together and it's a phase that eats at your heart. Cruelty doesn’t have to be physically hurting an animal, a person can allow an animal to starve or fail to help cure an injury and it will still be considered animal cruelty. If you are the offender you can be charged or sent to jail for committing this crime. I don’t think people realize how big of problem this is, an animal is harmed every 15 minutes, that's a lot of animals each day.

As you can see animal cruelty is a big problem. How would you like to be beaten, starved, have products tested on every day? This is the life of many animals each day, if you wouldn’t like to be treated like that then you shouldn’t treat your animal like that. There were 832 animal cruelty cases in America last year and hopefully the amount of cases will go down in the years to come. Also I hope you learned that an animal from a shelter is not a bad animal it’s an animal that needs a loving and supporting home. Save a life, not take a life. Help stop animal cruelty!
